Crane Runway Systems & Materials
Kimes Steel & Rail supplies complete crane runway packages — rail, fastening, splice hardware, and leveling — manufactured in-house in West Virginia since 1986. New runways or replacement components, cut and ready to install, with help to spec it right.
What’s in a crane runway package
A complete crane runway from Kimes includes everything that goes on the steel:
- Crane rail — ASCE sections in standard 30′ lengths, cut to your run length.
- Rail fastening — your choice of rail clips or crane rail hook bolts matched to your mounting beam (C-channel, S-beam, or W-beam).
- Splice hardware — joint/connector bars with track bolts, nuts, and lockwashers.
- Leveling & sole plates — for alignment and load distribution.
We supply each item individually or as a coordinated runway package.
Clips vs. hook bolts
Rail clips
Bolt or weld the rail to the supporting structure — simple, economical, and common for lighter runways.
Hook bolts
Clamp the rail directly to the flange of your support beam — no welding to the structure. The correct hook bolt depends on your rail size and the beam it mounts to (C-channel, S-beam, or W-beam dimension).
Not sure which you need? Tell us your rail size and mounting beam in the quote form and we’ll spec it.
Crane rail sizes we stock
We stock ASCE crane rail in 25, 30, 40, 60, and 85 lb sections, cut to your run length — the sizes that cover the majority of crane runway applications. Browse ASCE crane rail →

Crane runway FAQ
What is a crane runway?
The pair of rails a bridge, gantry, or overhead crane travels on, plus the fastening, splice, and leveling hardware that secures the rail to the supporting steel.
What size crane rail do I need?
Crane rail is specified by weight per yard (e.g., 60 lb ASCE), driven by your crane’s wheel loads and wheel diameter. We stock 25, 30, 40, 60, and 85 lb ASCE — send us your crane specs and we’ll recommend a section.
Should I use rail clips or hook bolts?
Clips are simplest and most economical, especially where you can weld or bolt to the structure. Hook bolts are best when clamping to a beam flange without welding. The right hook bolt depends on both your rail size and the mounting beam.
How much rail do I need?
Two rails per runway, each the length of your runway, supplied in 30′ sections. Our quote form estimates pieces, splice bars, and fasteners from your runway length.
Do you ship nationwide?
Yes — we ship crane runway materials across the US from West Virginia.
