The Lockwasher AREA is a bolt split lockwasher manufactured to AREA (American Railway Engineering Association) and AREMA (American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association) specifications. It is the standard railroad track washer used with track bolts to secure rail joint bars on railroad and transit track.

AREA/AREMA lockwashers are heavier and more robust than standard split lockwashers, providing the clamp force needed to maintain tight rail joint connections under the dynamic loads of train traffic. If you require heavy-duty fastening but do not need the full AREMA specification, our Extra Heavy lockwasher is a commonly used alternative.
